SIEGE: TITAN WARS GUIDE

Clash Royale-likes are a dime a dozen on the App Store these days as eager developers rush in to hop aboard the biggest trend in mobile gaming. Siege: Titan Wars is the newest game of this variety.
A mobile card battler, SIEGE: Titan Wars will look very familiar to fans of Supercell's lane-based CCG. Players use cards to send units into battle and cast spells, though Titan Wars does do things a bit differently. But does it do enough to separate itself from the pack?

While it's easy to feel disappointment by how derivative a lot of new mobile titles feel, in a
glass half full sense, it's pretty remarkable how refined game mechanics that work well on mobile are getting. The latest example of a game that takes everything that's popular in mobile and re-assembles the pieces in an increasingly polished way is Tilting Point and Simutronics' Siege: Titan Wars. It's got elements of Clash Royale, an art style that's a bit closer to Vainglory, and gameplay that mixes in more than a few dashes of those classic

Castle Defense sort of games. Of course this is also wrapped in cards to collect and upgrade, chests that unlock in real-time, and player vs player combat with clans you can join if you want to play with friends.

The game's tutorial walks you through the basic gist of what you'll be doing: Building and assembling a deck of cards that are summoned using a constantly replenishing mana pool to overwhelm your opponent and eventually siege their castle. Card types include powerful titan units, warriors, and spells. Your warriors and titans just wander down the battlefield themselves, attacking anything in their way. The only thing you can target is your magic spells, which depending on your deck load-out can either be support spells that do things like heal your units or offensive spells which knock-back enemy units, burn 'em with fire, and more.

Charge!

If you've played Clash Royale, Titan Wars is going to look very knownwell. At the start of each four-minute battle, you're given five mana, which recharges once every second. You use said mana to play cards, which sends your warriors into the fray.

Titan Wars uses just one lane on a much longer battlefield, which makes for some messy, high scale battles that you won't see in other games of this nature. It makes fights feel more epic and frantic, which is a nice new touch to what would otherwise be a very derivative game.

There's a good range of cards to start out, from your basic soldier units to more advanced cards like Sorcerers and Werewolves. You can cast, spells, too, which do anything from raw damage to crowd control. I had a blast using Gravity Well to suck enemies into one tight spot and then bomb them with a Fireball.

The titular Titans are very powerful spell cards that summon impressive beasts onto the battlefield to cause sweeping damage. You'll collect a wide variety during your adventures, and each has their own unique strength which keeps combat interesting.

The aim of these larger battles is to cleverly use your cards in well-timed strategy to overwhelm your opponent, and it's quite fun, even if you're just starting your own card collection.

Save up your energy at the start of battle. Be patient. It’s best to stockpile a little then unleash a wave
of troops in one go. Once things get a bit more hectic, this isn’t so easy to accomplish so take advantage of those first few seconds and be ready.

Try to use a mixture of different troops and keep the momentum going. Don’t get complacent as battles can change in (or against) your favor very quickly in SIEGE: Titan Wars. Please be patient.
Don’t always deploy en masse as your enemy can counteract that with area effect spells.
Keep an eye on what kind of units your enemy is using and deploy accordingly to counteract the attack. Remember – you can still win a battle if you’ve destroyed more towers than your opponent, but haven’t wiped out their base

Titans are powerful units that can be deployed at a very hefty energy point cost. They need backup though. Make sure you deploy them at the same time as some other units. That way, your Titan can lead the charge but your other units can mop up the damage, and chip away at your enemies too.
Titans are great and quite overpowered, but they’re not invincible. Make sure to heal them with a relevant spell to keep them active for longer.

The Orc Thrasher is one of the easier Titans to unleash as it ‘only’ costs 4 energy points. It benefits from plenty of health, and can mostly take out anything. It’s the Phantom that’s so very special though. Costing 5 energy points, it has less health than the Orc Thasher it can deal out additional damage against towers and bases. That makes a big difference when you’re running after your enemy. It also has a great passive ability. Once it loses all its health, it retreats into its tomb with its own health bar. If the tomb isn’t destroyed after a few seconds, the Phantom is resurrected at full health. Play it wisely and that means this Titan is practically indestructible. Remember to deploy it alongside other units so that the Tomb isn’t targeted!

Slowing down your enemy’s attack is an important part of success. Use cards such as Tidal Wave to push them back and slow them down. It only costs 1 energy point so it’s worth doing whenever possible. Use area target spells like Fireball and Arrow Storm to disperse a crowd of enemies. This is particularly useful if your enemy has just deployed a Phantom. Use Sludge when the enemy units are reasonably distant from you, and you need the time to earn some more energy.

Epic battles with a catch. While it's fun to watch these scrabbles play out, there's so little input from players. You can only choose where to place your spells and your Titans. All other ground units will deploy from your castle.

Not only does this limit your strategy, if the fight is further up the field, you'll must wait long, precious seconds for reinforcements to reach the heat of the battle. These small limitations might bother players who like to have a more
hands-on approach.

A worthy copycat

SIEGE: Titan Wars is an unabashed copycat. However, Titan Warsmakes subtle improvements to an established genre that are mostly welcome and refreshing. If you're looking for something brand new and innovative, you may want to look elsewhere
